When my four children finally become semi-self sufficient (mom how m any minutes
in the microwave?) I decided that it was the now-or-never-time to pursue my dream
of becoming a romance novelist. After four years of rejection (and very little
house cleaning), my dream came true and my first full-length book, HOT SUMMER NIGHTS
hit the bookshelves this past August. But after being a stay-at-home mom for many
years, well, let's just say my hair and wardrobe needed a little tweaking. So, when
my mother brought me an ad for a makeover contest from a local magazine, I decided to
enter. I told the editor that I needed to "look like a romance novelist" and low and
behold, I was chosen as the winner, which then catapulted me into a "be careful what
you asked for" scenario.
My short, blonde hair, with the magic of hair extensions (hello, five hours in a salon
chair) has been transformed into long flowing tresses, heavy on the high maintenance
scale… but I have to admit are wicked fun. There is just something about being able to
flip your hair over your shoulder that gives a girl some attitude. I spent a day in a
snazzy little boutique where the owner outfitted me in clothing that included fishnet
stockings, a white fur vest, and orange suede shoes that had my mother (who came along
to manage my Farrah Fawcett hair while I tried on clothes) and me laughing until we cried.
